"...the new litny(sic) structure is that WEREWOLVES DON'T KILL WEREWOLVES"
"You could tie them up in chains."
"That'd be torture though."
"well in this new program...(inaudible)...the loss of spiritual purity...(--)...theres an ideological split between the Rahoo and the Blood Talon, I'm playing the Rahoo storm lord.."
"who plays the sneak?"
"Stephanie."
"Psh, she can't sneak."
"I know. Your character makes your gifts useful. I lied to the face of the most powerful man -twice- A Wolf Blood."
"I'll take that honor because I totally fulfilled that oath. Your Wolf Bloods tend your wounds, help you out, you should use them as a spy network. Without their knowledge you can't shape shift...reflexive actions... run up walls... STOP HITTING YOURSELF STOP HITTING YOURSELF STOP HITTING YOURSELF. (laughs) but hey I'm no alpha.
"who's the alpha?"
"Jason"
"Sweet."
"As the alpha you have to lead. If not, the beta has to step up, and if no one does then the pack slips."
"...they never get the benefits of those spirits, ones a mountain lion and a saber tooth, you don't mess with the ancient spirits of the grasslands. The viceroy is a 4, almost 5 rank spirit - he gets his essence from vampires blood, they don't know it, he has a guy that gets it for him, a mortal shaman that's how he talks to us too. He waits in the temple... I mean viceroy can chill, but mostly he offers dangerous things, he's a patron of his own evil agenda, but right now he's your buddy pal, so why not work with him you know."

"the poetics of aristotle is the poetics of oppression, the world is known perfect or about to be perfect and all its values are imposed on the spectators, who passively delegate power to the characters to act and think in their place." This is the premise that guides popular science to relentlessly seek out The Truth.* This search turned from a philosophical conversation with the ideas to a business and competive endeavor to hoard information and the performance of an expert system who/that will talk at you, fix your car for you, prescribe you medicine, but not allow a space to interact with or shape information(to secure their salary, ego,..) In my experience, the ritual of the stage is interacted with in a similar way. Though antiquated, I enjoy the ritual of the stage and I dont want to write codecs for wireless communication in order to make this post so I guess "expert" systems are at times desirable for me. But, like i've said before, I do not want to live in a society where people are involved in practices that provoke/prolong rituals of minimally interacting with their environment/science/the stage. I DO like the philosophy of embodiment(never having called it that.) I like what I learn from it and the way it makes me think. One thing you could teach you under the influence of this philosophy is the anti-Cartesian approach to law and medicine and it makes globalized action seem completely overwhelming - one could instead support the idea of a more localized political science, tied to eco-regions rather than global ideology - it can still "be revealing on the level of consciousness, but not globally on the level of action." meaning.... the concept of embodiment could not easily bare the symptom of imperialist ideology. I've also been comparing embodiment to the concept of Immanence in certain religious practices and magic..

*Just to say Aristotle, well, all scientist with notoriety presented "irrational" data in rational form with rational language - They rely heavily on the performance of Truth in the name of Truth and other drab paradoxes.

"have you re(a)d mar(x)ks?"
"no comrade, its these damn wicker chairs."
I have never read anything by Karl Marx but am familiar with the work of people who were in conversation with his work, I think its become something different from the Marxism Baud is referring to. Whatever it is/was I can grasp from the reading that Baud is requesting attention be paid to the implications of mass production/consumption on communication and local to global identities: I think Marxism does speak to this, maybe not explicitly but by analogy and the mutual causality inherent in production(material) and communication(social sanctions/constraints+freedoms).

Mass media is a living organism, and all living organisms learn patterns to perpetuate and amplify themselves. This is the ecology of mass media. ECOLOGY - the flow and transformation of energy(in this case, information) throughout a living system. In models of production of material objects - the further away you get from your energy source the following gradients appear and overlap - time moves slower (the capitalist system tries to deal with this by compression and standardization of time), more energy is expended at a greater amount (the environment takes the blow), and its probably no coincidence that the further production is away from the consumer the worse living conditions become - to have extreme social disparity you'd also need social control and mass media used as one of the many tools.

The contradictions inherent in systems that are hardly reflexive can be put off but never resolved (this is an important concept of Marxism.) The chaotic dynamics of day to day activity are not reflected by our mediums of communication that rely on time-sticking events and ideas to perpetuate, politicize, and secure themselves as reliable mediums. The greater the audience the slower time moves for an idea. Global identity has a much slower time gradient than national identity and national identity slower than personal identities ect.

Baud also accentuates McLuhan's "medium is the message" to discuss the social implications of the geometry inherent in mass media, by this I think he means the way it teaches people to reidentify with their environment - for example, the phenomena of minimally interacting with an environment because one has either devalued or forgotten the power of responding and being responded to-feedback.

Even if in jest, what if we had a medium that instead of perpetuating itself it triggered intense decay - Reality television could have been an example of this (television that teaches you to engage in "real life" - thus aleiviating the urge to watch it on the tube) but naw, just like all the other shit I'm still addicted if i don't control myself. I once met this kid who had been working on this video game that would help you reidentify your life as a video game placing emphasis on those mundane games you play when yourself as a concentrated effort to fend off boredom - jumping over cracks in the side walk, thinking of movie titles that are funny names for the act of shitting, and all the games you play while dreaming. Anyway, I'm trying to give examples of systems that deny themselves. So what does it look like when identity and forms of communication that shape our identities are reflexive and not time-stuck? What does a system look like that has the symptom of its perpetuators learning the dynamics involved in creating an environment - an environment that you do not seperate yourself from and deem impenetrable behind glass (stick that up your cartesian split.)
It could be in flux, ad hoc, autopoetic, improvisational, nomadic
"automatic""automata" whatever language you speak, or laced with the protocol of "an ironic dream of common language for women in the integrated circuit"(haraway) in order for the identity of the audience/participants to build enough significance only to be broken down, altered, and then built up again! Identities are then free to be alien life forms.
